Backward or Forward for Texas' Economy?
Don't Let the Trial Lawyers Destroy Our State's Legal System

Texas' economy took a big step forward when Governor Perry and the state legislature worked together in 2003 to enact sweeping lawsuit reforms to protect Texas' employers from the threat of lawsuit abuse.

Prior to these reforms, Texas was ranked as the fifth-worst lawsuit climate in the country, according to a Harris Interactive Survey of major U.S. employers conducted for the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform.

But today, a new survey shows that Texas has jumped 10 spots to be ranked 36th out of 50 in the country.

That's excellent progress — but a huge threat still remains.

Trial lawyer allies in the legislature are also plotting to roll back the state's lawsuit reforms — a major step backward for Texas' economy.

Almost two-thirds (67%) of respondents in the survey above said that "the litigation environment in a state is likely to impact important business decisions" such as where to locate or do business.

Rolling back Texas' lawsuit reforms would be a huge threat to Lone Star State jobs.

And right now, Texas needs more jobs — not more lawsuits.
